A good lighting design is like a fine painting - it composes the stage, using color and a controlled
interplay of light and shadow to define what is (or is not) seen. It can define mood, location,
time-of-day, pacing and numerous other aspects. And it can do this in secret, in ways the audience
will attribute to the actors, set, or even the sound. Such is the magic of light.
